About the event
Rose Segal LIVE @ The Foundry, plus support TBA
Rose and Jack were raised in Oxfordshire in a household that their musical father filled with reggae and blues; Danny Segal was a guitarist, singer and songwriter, and frontman to several bands throughout their childhood, so they grew up watching him practice, busk, record and gig. Rose studied classical flute and violin throughout school, and began singing much later on. People responded immediately to her voice, so for her 21st birthday, Danny chose her a guitar so she could learn to accompany herself. Soon after that she began to write and sing her own music. Rose and Jack started a covers band in the summer of 2013 and were joined by drummer friend Jamie Langford playing the Cajon. The trio called themselves The Suncats and played cheerful high-energy covers in local pubs and on the streets of Oxford, using a dubious little busking rig Danny made for them with a motorcycle battery and a tangle of crocodile clips. As the band grew in confidence, Rose revealed her original songs to them, which they began to play and develop. In 2015 The Suncats paused, as Danny was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away a year later, an unspeakable loss to the world. Danny was a guiding light to the family musicianship, and both Jamie and Jack had moved away, but Rose soon found herself singing again. She began performing her original music, under her own name, with friends Jon Wright on the bass and John Gridley on drums. They began playing all-original sets around Oxford, at venues such as The Jericho Tavern, The Bullingdon and the O2 Academy. Jack and Jamie returned to play with them, and the full band sound blossomed. In March 2018 they entered Shaken Oak Studios to record debut EP Bring To Light with engineer and producer Arthur Young. The Oxfordshire barn-conversion studio instantly felt like home from home, with its log fire and friendly in-house cats. On December 15th they released the EP with a unique event at Shaken Oak Studios, involving lots of UV paint and the artistic talents of Director and Videographer Spencer Anderson to produce All The Colours music video. In 2023, now a mother of two, Rose has relocated to Brecon in Wales and discovered the warm and vibrant music scene there. Since the move they have been joined by the eerie talents of Matt Lodge on electric and acoustic guitar, and the band performs regularly at the local music venues and art centres. “Be sure not to miss out on an enchanting experience… you will find yourself lost in a series of magical moments”. – Lodge Productions
